Canfor Sawmill

DERIDDER, LA

Five-S started with a flat parcel of farmland back in part of ’22. They stripped the organics and began digging the large retention ponds and shaping the site to drain. With extensive on-site material testing, Five-S made use of almost all of the material excavated out of the ponds. The work consisted of striping 60 acres of organics, over 400k cy’s of excavation and placement, 40,000 tons of limestone base and a few thousand feet of stormwater drainage. The jobsite consisted of multiple pads for structures such as kilns, mills, warehouse, etc.

Five-S developed all of the roads and paving base, but the most critical part was the elevated crane mounds. They stayed out in front of all the other subcontractors and took on the site maintenance portion of the job by dewatering, maintaining roads, etc. to ensure that all contractors could get around the site and back to work in a timely manner. Five-S also had multiple meetings around some of the designs and helped identify problems before they became a hindrance to the project.
